Unrelated Geeky Addendum
In other news, does this Trackback pinging thing ever work? Not that I know much about it, or care, really, but this phrase is about to enter my everyday lexicon: One or more errors occurred when sending update or TrackBack pings. I'm going to start saying this to friends when they're spouting nonsense. "Skot, we want you to be Richard Dawson." "Sorry, one or more errors occurred when sending update or TrackBack pings." "What? You fucking freak." "Your entry has been saved." Note: Comments are closed on old entries. Comments TrackBack's not the problem, it's the service you're sending update messages to. The reason you see the error is because you're set to notify a server that's slow or messed up. Ping me! I will love you for it. I've had a blog for a year and a half and have no idea what trackback is. Don't tell me though, I like it this way. I'm with Clark. That technobabble just makes things overly confusing for no reason. I get that too... I'm guessing it's weblogs.com that's failing for you? That's the one that fails for me, on a VERY consistent basis. It succeeds maybe once out of every ten entries... if that... at least I know it's rare enough that I'm surprised when I DON'T see error messages. I second Ryan's guess; the weblogs.com server has pretty much been sucky for the last six months or so... I too am amazed when a ping to the server actually *works*. Alas... there are now better updater services out there, and it looks like it's time to start using them. Interesting. So, uh . . . how in the fuck do I change it? How do I ping Anil, provided that he was actually serious? Let me try something. /me pings Anil /me waits No, I've got nothing. It only works if you're trying to be Foster *burp* Brooks. What other updaters are there? I haven't found any other than weblogs.com and www.blo.gs And Skot: Are you using Movable Type? If so, there is a setting under Weblog Config in the Preferences section... You can put in links to sites that you want to ping every time you add an entry. It also has checkboxes there for weblogs.com and blo.gs so that you can ditch the trackback pings for those 2 sites if you so desire. i look at ping and think bling, bling, whatever the hell THAT means Post a comment |
